Founded in 2015, Buglight was established with a simple belief: great stories have the power to connect people, challenge perspectives and inspire change. For over a decade we've created ambitious theatre, film and community projects rooted in South Yorkshire, reaching audiences locally and beyond.
Creating opportunities for working-class creatives is at the heart of everything we do. Only 10% of people working in the UK's creative industries come from a working-class background, and we believe talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn't. We're committed to opening doors, championing new voices and creating pathways for artists to build sustainable creative careers.
Our work shines a light on the unseen, unheard and underrepresented. We explore untold stories, forgotten histories and familiar narratives from unexpected perspectives, creating work that entertains, sparks conversation and encourages empathy. While our stories are often rooted in Yorkshire, the conversations they inspire are universal.
As Buglight has grown, so too has our ambition. Alongside creating original theatre and film, we're increasingly focused on developing artists, building partnerships and creating opportunities for creativity to flourish. We believe great work happens when people have the time, trust and support to collaborate, experiment and grow.
Just as importantly, we care about how work is made. We don't subscribe to the idea that "the show must go on" at any cost. Instead, we champion creative processes that are collaborative, sustainable and rooted in care, creating environments where artists, participants and communities feel valued, supported and able to do their best work.
We're a small company with big ambitions. Our vision is to create bold work, nurture the next generation of creatives and help build a stronger, more inclusive creative future for South Yorkshire, where talent, not background, determines who gets to tell the stories that shape our world.
